This has been an interesting week.

Last week we went to Legaspi to extend our Visas. They took the opportunity to overcharge us by hundreds of dollars...just because they could. We had an extra $120 budgeted for the visas which turned out to be $400. Four hundred dollars here means, rent, transportation and food for a month. We realized we were in trouble and had an emergency family planning meeting. We looked at all our expenses and tried to think what costs we could live without. One of the "frivolous" costs we decided to cut were our haircuts. We both needed one, so we decided to give it a shot ourselves. My bangs got a little shorter than anticipated, but overall, the effect was not all that different from normal. Poor Cree on the other hand looks like I ran over his head with a rusty lawn mower. All we had was a pair of scissors...so I just went at it. I've never given a hair cut before, so I didn't really understand the importance of paying attention to how close you cut. The photos don't do the cut justice....it is much worse in person. People come up to Cree with real concern and suggest places to get it fixed. One woman asked if we had been in a fight. Very funny. Oh well. Makes for a good memory.

  1. Oh! I can't even imagine trying to cut Gregg's hair with scissors. I always cut his hair but only with a trusty electric razor.. do they have any there?

  2. this is so funny, and so sad about your money loss. that sucks! but i have learned the hard way about cutting hair. it's rough! but i will suggest watching a lot of youtube videos... that helped a lot. i exclusively use scissors now because i am afraid of clippers, which i guess is weird because people seem to like those better. i think the problem is that i just let robbie's hair grow to a nasty disheveled stage and then i can cut off tons and it still looks like it could use more off.

  4. Oh how I would love to have an electric razor...we have one at home and we use that one, but figured it wouldn't be worth hauling it all the way over here. Most people don't own them here because they are too expensive, so figured our scissors would be the safest bet. Lessons learned. :) We should have just spend the couple dollars to get it cut at a salon.

  5. Haha oh man! Love this post. I hate cutting hair! I'm so bad at it. I will never do it to anyone. Unless I really don't like them.

    Cute pics :)
